The Chelmsford Off road duathlon takes place on Sunday 18 October and the organisers are looking for a couple more marshals to assist. If you are available, please email Graham Lee direct (mdp-triathlon@hotmail.co.uk). All marshals will be provided with breakfast after the event.

So far I have had two anomalies raised, one of which has changed the winner of the youth boys, apologies for the initial error. For anyone who competed in all four key events, there will be an error in the reported number of races entered; this error does not impact the overall scoring and, given the difficult to change, will be left as is.

Having received no comments on the Adult League it has now been declared as final. Many congratulations to all those who took part and particular congratulations to the league winners,

19 Sep 2009 - Triathlon England Eastern Region AGM 2009

Simon Perkins, region secretary has announced that the 2009 AGM for the region will take place on Tuesday 10 November 2009 (official notice here). Everyone is welcome but please make every effort to ensure your club is represented at the meeting.

The 2009 season is still upon us but Race Organisers are already busy planning their events for 2010. In an effort to try and avoid clashes on dates I have started a draft calendar which can be used until the British Triathlon Database is up, running and reporting (sometime in December). If you are planning to hold an event next year, please email me (Richard Fuller) with race names, dates, distances, age limits.

Many congratulations to Eastern Region TriStars and Youths who represented the region at the Inter Regional Championships this weekend. They managed an extremely creditable 3rd place overall, repeating their performance of the last two years

Following the Clacton Triathlon all results from the 7 Standard Distance Races have been incorporated into the Eastern Region League and are available to view. I'm afraid my logic skills have come up wanting with regards identifying the qualifying races and I have had to make a few changes. As of now I have resolved all queries to date but please ask if you think your child is not displaying the correct score.

The Eastern Region will be running a regional league of Standard Distance events for members of Eastern Region Clubs in 2009. Full details are available under the "Adult League" tab

Full details of the Children's Race Series are available under the "Children" tab

Children from Eastern Region clubs who participated in the 2008 League series and finished in the top three in their category got together for their awards event. This took place at Tenpin Bowling alley in Chelmsford where they played two games of ten pin bowling before having a well earned meal and collected their trophies. Photos for the event can be seen here, I will publish more photos as and when they arrive so do come back and look again.

The winners of the Adult Race Series this year will be receiving personalised Eastern Region Polo Shirts, hopefully early in the New Year; they will be able to wear these with pride throughout the race series next year.

Many congratulations to Keith Perry of FVS Tri for winning the Official of the Year trophy at the BTF awards on Saturday. Keith works tirelessly for the region and the sport; he is the Eastern Region representative on the Triathlon England Council and represents three regions on the Triathlon England Board. This is a very well deserved award.

Every year British Triathlon make awards to mark excellent contributions by individuals, clubs and races. Within the Eastern Region members are invited to make nominations for Volunteer, Young Volunteer, Referee, Coach, Event and Club of the year. Eastern Region members will then be able to vote for their favoured candidate and the winners will be put forward for the national award which is presented at the annual dinner. The league has now been updated following the Bedford Classic Triathlon. With just one event remaining (Clacton) the senior leagues are wide open with any one of 5 men or 2 women winning; the vet leagues are pretty much done and dusted; congratulations to Roy Young and Melissa Dowell, both of Born2Tri who will win the leagues. There remains a fight for minor places though.

Eastern Region Adult league updated following Gosfield Lake Triathlon

9 July saw the inaugural Eastern Region School Aquathlon championships. Over 100 children took part in the event and honours went to Norfolk with a very strong 500 points.

An Impressive double win for Born2Tri today as Roy Young wins the men's race and Melissa Dowell the ladies. Roy is planning to move up to Half Ironman later this year because he can't keep up with the young'uns in the shorter distance races any more. I think that may be able to wait a year or two yet. I have heard from Tri Sport Epping that the date of the Upminster Children's Triathlon has had to change; problems at Coopers' swimming pool has meant the date has now changed to Saturday 13 September. It will remain as part of the Eastern Region Race Series

Blackshots Leisure Centre today played host to the Eastern Region Leg for Corus Kids of Steel. Almost 600 children took part, more than double last year with lots of support from East Essex Triathlon Club and regional coaches. Read more....

Moira Burgham has informed me that there are still spaces available for the Cambridge Duathlon that takes place on Sunday 20 April at Bottisham Village. The race comprises of a 7km run, 35km bike and then a final 7km run.  The event is organised by Cambridge Triathlon Club.  The event attracts both experienced multisport athletes and complete novices.  We seek to welcome all abilities. The children, who finished first, second or third in the Eastern Region Race Series completed two games of bowling before receiving their awards from Ceri Winter our Regional Development Manager. The children all deserved the afternoon treat after a hard season competing across the region, and they all gave their parents a round of applause for carting them up and down the M11, A12 and points between.
